Today was my first day back at work after 19 days of annual leave.
Remember when you were at school and there were certain things that signposted that Sunday night doomy feeling?
For me, hearing the opening theme music to The Antiques Roadshow was my signal of impending Monday/doom.
I don't dislike my job like I disliked school, it was more that it had just been a while since I had been in my work routine. More laziness than dread.
I fully expected, after over 2 weeks of going to bed/getting up late that my body was going to throw a bit of a strop and give me a night of fractious sleep, however I went to bed really early to read and try to trick my body into sleepytime like an errant toddler.
I was surprised then, that after scarcely an hour of reading, I was feeling drowsy and soon after was asleep and slept mostly through the night.
First day back at work was fine. Nothing major waiting for me and had a brief but nice catch up call with my boss.
I feel absolutely exhausted now though. I've already had a nap this afternoon and will likely have another early night.
I feel like my body is in a kind of hibernation. Maybe it's the season starting to move into winter, maybe it's just having to get used to being back in my work routine, or maybe it's just what my body does as part of its cycle, like Pennywise having a nice, long nap before terrorising Derry again, except I get a lot less time than 27 years.
As ridiculous as this sounds after only one day back at work, I'm very glad it's Friday tomorrow! I'm very grateful to myself for planning my time off this way.
Credit where credit is due, I could be feeling a lot worse than tired. At least I was able to sleep last night so I wasn't starting my day with no fuel in the tank at all and felt a lot brighter than I expected to.
I'm staving off the post Hallowe'en/holiday blues with planning for Christmas. I always need a project. My Christmas day outfit is already planned and my brother is confirmed to be staying with us for Christmas. We had a really nice time last year so that's something to look forward to.
